Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of telecommuting

Advantages: Telecommuting benefits the enviornment by reducing the number of cars on the freeway by allowing people to transfer information from home.It saves energy and reduces pollution and accidents.
It is more productive for the worker, it saves time and allows the worker to finish ear;y without communting to and from home which allows time for personal recreation.
It allows for a more flexible schedule and reduces wasted time and distraction.

Disadvantages: Sometimes jobs require instant communication with coworkers to prevent confusion. Working at home requires self-discipline and instead of benefiting the worker can be a distraction with temptations such as sleep or television. Kids and food are also distractions when working from home.

Social and Ethical issues relating to Telecommuting: EQUALITY OF ACCESS: SOme workers are not able to telecommute becuase of unavailable resources and materials that are crusial to the job and therefore must work where there are recources.

POLICIES AND STANDARDS: When working at home workers must be trusted to use the computer and other technology in the appropriate way and floow policies and standards given to them at work as well as at home.
